Summary

Tirzepatide activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, increasing post-meal insulin secretion and reducing food intake through central appetite pathways. In large trials it produced greater weight loss and HbA1c reductions than semaglutide, with a similar GI tolerability profile. The dual-agonist design is thought to drive stronger metabolic effects without proportionally more nausea. It is approved for diabetes and obesity in many regions.
